1.) TRIGGER WARNINGS: Human trafficking. Captivity. Misogyny and objectification. Terminal illness. Body horror.*Nagini's story in Crimes of Grindelwald is a clear metaphor for certain real-world issues and while I do think this aspect is something not to brush aside as being simply a metaphor, I also don't want to go too overt with it, therefore I'm going to try and tread a careful balance.2.) ANTI ROWLING. This usually goes without saying but I want to make that very clear.3.) Writer is 27 years old. Despite being of age, I do not write smut, this is non-negotiable. However, minors, this account is not the place for you. 18+ only.4.) I am a white English person writing an Indonesian character. While I am researching in regards to Indonesian history and culture, I am far from an expert on Indonesian culture and history. If you notice anything incorrect or problematic, please feel free to let me know as it's definitely not deliberate.5.) This is a Tom Riddle- less AU, sorry.
In addition to the usual symptoms of Maledictionem Bestiae (see below), the patient has reported the following:Extreme hypermobility of joints and musclesEpisodic weakness of limbsHeightened sense of smell, ability to ‘sense’ the air with her tongueProgressive colourblindnessAbnormally low body temperature, inability to naturally thermoregulateLess need to blinkThe patient is also a parselmouth.
Maledictionem Bestiae (also known as MB, but better known by the name of the sufferers, maledictuses) is a terminal blood curse forcing the sufferer to undergo a slow transformation into a beast.Maledictuses are sometimes confused with animagi due to the ability to transform into an animal at will, but these are vastly different states of being. Becoming an animagus is a skill one chooses to acquire, and when achieved successfully is completely safe. Though sufferers of MB can initially transform into their animal form at will, they will eventually lose the ability to transform back into their human form, and will lose their human mental state too, rendering them indistinguishable from an ordinary animal. Sufferers of MB are exclusively born to magical families, though over time lose the ability to perform magic.MB has only been found in patients assigned female at birth, and is transmitted from mother to daughter during pregnancy. An assigned male child of a maledictus will not himself be a maledictus, but the condition can be expected to resurface in a female descendant down the line. The type of animal the MB sufferer will transform into can vary, including both magical and mundane creatures, but is always the same animal throughout one family lineage afflicted with MB.There is currently no cure for MB. Sufferers may seek treatments that can help slow down symptoms and lessen pain, but these are usually difficult and expensive. Many treatments can prove fatal to the maledictus, the majority of women who choose to undergo these procedures do so as a method of euthanasia. Most wizarding governments worldwide at the time of this document’s publication (1932) categorise Maledictuses as non-wizard part-humans, also known as ‘underbeings’ or ‘halfbreeds’. This means that they are not recognised with the same legal rights as ordinary witches.Symptoms include:Ability to transform into a beast, and the gradual inability to transform backSkin turning animalistic in patches (for instance patches of feathers, scales or fur)Progressive memory loss, gradual psychological transformation from human to beastLoss of or increase of senses to match the animalistic selfDissociation into the animal psyche during sleep; may lead to sleepwalking
Gradual loss of the ability to perform magicChronic pain, fatigue, dizzy spellsAdditional symptoms vary depending on the maledictus animal.
